Anybody driven the new Miata?
Saw one at the dealer yesterday. It was red and it looked hot.
Because Canadian trim levels suck, you can either get a sport model with the LSD(important for winter..and summer..
)or you can get the ghey model with leather and BOSE stereo. Seeing as my dad is an old geezer who likes to drive fast, he wants both, but alas this isnt possible, so if we got one, the sport model it is(I've sucessfully convinced him that LSD is uber important and cars w.out it are the anti-christ).
Has anyone driven one? Whats the ride like?
He said if he got one, he'd get the Sport model with the hardtop, so I forsee some track days/ HPDE's

i dont think the miata is worth it. then again i'm used to the creamy perfomance of hondas... most other manuals i've driven since i got my GSR has felt a little more forced and less refined. and from what i've heard it's just not up to the standards set by it's competitors. though it has been rated better than the solstice
i'd personally tell him, seeing as it sounds like he wants a retirement weekend type car... to look at the s2k

My Miata's shifter is certainly nicer than my GSR's shifter was.
So yeah, quit talking about shit you have no clue about.
I have to disagree with Evolution. The car does not feel crappy at all. I autocrossed one at the Mazda Zoom-Zoom Live. It's very solid. The controls are light and direct. Everything is pretty much geared towards the driver. I believe I got to test drive either the Sport or Grand Touring model. It had a 6 speed transmission and 17" wheels.
The clutch pedal is soft and doesn't take much effort at all to push down. It didn't take me that long to get used to but I remember hearing tons of people revving the engine so high just to get into first gear. They probably are just inexperienced in driving stick or something because they also bounced off the rev limiter in first gear.
The car rides very smooth and solid in corners. There's virtually no cowl shake at all. I was impressed by that since my car has tons of that.
Power delivery was great. It's definitely not a torque monster but it's pretty quick. It kind of pulls you back in your seat.
I only got to drive the car for about a minute on the course. But even then I really liked it. I definitely wouldn't mind owning one.
