by the way, how does one callibrate? i want to try.
There are simple methods available on Google but to get a true calibration you have to run it with a hardware piece commonly called a "spider". It makes sure all your pixles are showing true colour by taking a range of samples and adjusting temperatures, contrast, and brightness through your comp.

Once it is set you can run it a few days on an LCD then want to run a check every couple days, on a CRT usually two weeks is good but I tend to check mine weekly just in case. I usually start it up as I am leaving the house so I don't have to sit around and wait for it to finish.

i understand the needs for photography reasons, but to tell you the truth i'd trust the color ouput of a digital lcd over that of a crt anyday.

and that would be because you haven't actually seen the difference over time of use or hearing your editors phone call after you just got done editing and sending in shots off an LCD or laptop screen

my monitor is awesome. I stopped noticing those lines after about 5 minutes. I can't even find them now on purpose. :dunno:

I have no experience doing what you describe but I'm going to argue with you anyways and say that you are WRONG!

I go by my experiences and would rather not waste the time or money testing the waters again.
