the older versions of the B5 had the stubby passenger side mirror...why? i have no clue. and yeah, it looks pretty dumb.

the later models also had better taillights.

are you getting the 1.8T or the 2.8? either way, go with the 99.

my brother has a 99 a4 quattro.
He has an electrical problem with his car right now.
If he leaves his car off for say 3-4 hours the windows roll down on their own.

he left his car in our garage while he went on vacation.
He came back and saw the windows had rolled themselves down.
So that problem is driving him crazy right now.

99 A4 1.8T 155 ft lb @ 1,750 rpm
Now that is usable torque

I believe they went to drive by wire in 98 or 99, but 2001 is when they updated to a more powerful 1.8T engine. Interior was also changed in 98.5-99. Excellent cars just make sure to change the Timing belt every 70k mile's. Also the control arm bushings tend to go soft and squeak, needing replacement about every 60-90k mile's...can't replace just the bushings.

What is your problem? I had my audi from 80k mile's, driven for 10K mile's with no issue's. Most problems that come from a car are caused by their owners neglect, if you maintain a vehicle like you want it to last 10yrs then it will last 10 yrs, if you don't change the oil and beat it like you stole it it will crap out on u sooner than later.
