HD is beautiful.

Part of me thinks it's not quite enough though. I'm thinking at least 2500P would be better and more TV's that can auto calibrate the color.

nah, the resoloution is enough, the problem would be sending that ammount of information.

many digital cable stations send their pitcures over lossy mpeg-2 and at that resoloution i dont think they'd be able to fit the channels on their bandwidth without cutting into their internet services majorly.

:Edit: and i agree it's bliss ot be able to see every little hair on billy bob's chest before he gets slammed to the ground

mpeg2 is getting too weak to be able to support modern screen resolution. i wonder what the new high density dvd's are going to use as their vid format.

mpeg are standars, mpeg-2 is just considered the stanard by which communications like that would be based on
:Edit: -more-
mpeg 3 drafts started to appear but it was mixed with mpeg 2 once it was agreed that mpeg-2 met the HDTV requirements

I can't live without HD now. I watch a non-HD channel and actually lose interest in the programming because of the picture quality alone.

Blu-Ray uses high-profile H.264. That's a freakin sweet codec
