is there a way you can have a single worksheet that has all the info from the other worksheets on it, and have that main spreadsheet get updated when you change something on the other sheets (or vice versa)?
i.e. main sheet has stuff from sheet1 and sheet2. if you change sheet1, main sheet changes too, or if you change the main sheet, sheet1 changes too.
possible? how?

You have to link the sheets together. It's been a long time since I even looked at Excel so I couldn't tell you exactly how.

it depends on how much information you need from "sheet 1" and "sheet 2" to be loaded to the "main" sheet.

Do Once
- On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Calculation tab.
- Select the Iteration check box.
- To set the maximum number of times Microsoft Excel will recalculate, type the number of iterations in the Maximum iterations box. The higher the number of iterations, the more time Excel needs to calculate a worksheet.
- To set the maximum amount of change you will accept between calculation results, type the amount in the Maximum change box. The smaller the number, the more accurate the result and the more time Excel needs to calculate a worksheet. (Not needed)
- Click the cell that contains the data you want to link to, and then click Copy on the Standard toolbar (toolbar: A bar with buttons and options that you use to carry out commands. To display a toolbar, click Customize on the Tools menu, and then click the Toolbars tab.).
- Click the cell you want to link from, and then click Paste .
- Click Paste Options and then click Link Cells.

using "=" is a good idea, except i can't update the main sheet, i have to update the actual sheet the info is on, which is ok i guess.
the point of this is that we have 2 phases of a program...i have a sheet for each phase, and then a main sheet that puts them together. so all the info from sheet1 and sheet2 go on the main sheet. i'll try the "=" thing and see how well that works.

that first set of instrucetions lets you make circular references
in the main sheet... have whatever row/column = row/column in the other sheet
then do the reverse for the phase sheet
in the main sheet... have whatever row/column = row/column in the other sheet
then do the reverse for the phase sheet
