done w/ the bikes for awhile. used the ins money to pay off some bills. not afraid of riding, just feel like i've pushed my luck for now.

riding alone...managed to call the ambulance myself. yes...last week a guy i work w/ bought a new yamaha r6. he asked me to take it out & "scrub-in" the sides of his new tire cause he didn't feel comfortable yet leaning out, but needed the greasyness taken off. the first time i leaned out, i was shaking like a lil girl LOL

HELL YES!!! sent pics to arai & they wanted to borrow it for testing & sent it back to me afterwards. they said it took ~2700lbs per sq. inch to crack the chinbar like it was!!!! the helmet absorbed the majority of the impact, but since it was so close to my face, it still transferred some of the impact to my chin.
bottom line....no arai=dead man

the best of my memory, here is what happened......

i came into the curve @ ~75-80mph & had my line already set. i went to lean out & my shoe laces were caught around the pegs or heel guard, so i couldn't move my foot out to the edge of the peg like you do to lean the bike out. by the time i got my foot free(maybe 2 seconds), i was off my line considerably & was forced to lean the bike out much farther & faster. this caused the frontend to "washout" & i went straight off the road...bike & all. figure my face glanced the tree & that spun me & the bike 180degrees & it slid down the enbankment(very steep) on it's right side....doing the damage to the muffler.

my jaw still hurts like a bitch when i try to open it all the way or bite down on something real hard. normal movement is ~40mm opening, but i can only manage ~30mm now.

the major break(as seen on the right side of the pic) caused a small piece of bone to be taken out. when they put my jaw back together, my teeth no longer align like they did. in fact, they no longer meet in the front. so i can't really bite thru some things...i have to bite into it & tear. that sucks the most. also, think about how many times you have like a small piece of skin on you finger or something & you bite it off w/ the front teeth....i can't do that now

the glancing blow gave me whiplash like a motherfucker & i still can't move my head to my shoulders or all the way looking up w/out serious pain.

but considering i hit FACE-FIRST INTO A TREE @ 60MPH....guess i'm doing pretty good LOL

oh, btw......

ambulance ride to hospital = $750
life-flight to vanderbilt trauma unit in nashville = $6,500
4 days in vanderbilt trauma unit, surgery, etc = $60,000

working for a multi-billion dollar company that has excellent medical benefits & only having to pay $400 deductible out-of-pocket

PRICELESS

again.. ouch!

after the accident, did you realize immediately that your jaw was broken? what was going through your head while you were waiting for the ambulance?

no. i thought it was dislocated cause i could still talk. i could feel a gap between my teeth & thought i knocked a tooth out, but it was where my jaw broke & moved that much.

hella blood all over the place

there is a large chip to the fiberglass of the rear of the helmet(see helmet2 link). think i probably hit the back of my head on the tree the bike was stopped up against. that trauma caused all of the blood vessels in my eye to bust.

the accident was on may 14th & my eye is still a little pink, but my body has absorbed most of the blood now.
