i have 2 HDDs. One SATA drive (primary drive) and an ATA100 (primary IDE). i don't use the IDE at all and recently have been getting an error message during the boot-up crap.

can a HDD start corrupting if unused?

i dunno... i dont think it will because my comp upstairs has been off for MONTHS...and i just turned it on and it was fine. if ur worried about it just plug the power in every 2 months or something. OR if ur comp has an extra power supply plug u can just keep it plugged in without keeping the data wire in

if it's connected and powered then it will spin. if it spins, it will break over time.

if the disc or surface is deteriorating then you're in trouble... otherwise its just a couple head crashes... I don't think it'll get worse

you'd probably want to check all the HDD IDE connections, and jumpers. I'd get it working and back all my data off of it.
