I still think it would cost more that way....After the airfare, food while your there, shipping charges, my guess is taxes for importing it, and finally having it made street legal in the US I don't think you will be saving anything, and prolly spending more. But if you were going on vacation anyway then it might be worth doing.

wtf? it's a US Spec car made for the US. You don't pay any additional taxes nor do you need to make it street legal. You wont spend more on the car. You can simply pay for the airfare ~$800 if you go at the right time and drop the car off right away.

the point is to spend the money you saved on a little vacation in germany/europe.

It's called "European delivery," and most European car companies offer it.

You go to any dealer here in the USA and order a car the way you like it, there at the dealership. There's usually a discount on the car from the factory for doing European delivery. They also have deals on travel and such.

So you go over there to the factory, go on a tour, etc. They arrange temporary registration and insurance for the duration of your stay. You do some sightseeing or whatever else while driving your brand new car you just picked up for the factory. Then once the trip's over you drop the car off at a port and have it shipped over. One part I'm foggy about is some way that you can avoid taxes or something like that. But I forget exactly how that works.

So that's basically the rundown. You're not buying a Euro-spec car directly from the factory. This is an arrangement that the manufacturers have with their US distributors.

We almost did the european pickup for my dads 997 911. We planned on picking it up and going to a f1 race the same time. Too bad his car was ready early. :wtc:

Oh, alright. I was confused on some parts of this. It sounds pretty cool. Now if only I had enough money for a nice BMW or Porsche.
