Default Expert Electronic Help NEEDED

Ok, I have a big hobby messing with electronics...my new project that i've been working on now is using a walkie talkie with a small modification to set off a model rocket. In theory my idea works...but i don't see why it's not when i put it to the test...

What i've done so far:
Removed speaker from one walkie talkie
Soildered new leads off of the positive and negitive and sent them through the casing of the walkie talkie.
Connected the new leads to a small model rocket fuse. (the wires should only get hot when the signal would get sent to the speaker...thus when you call the waklie talkie...

The problem i'm having is i think theres an inverter in there becuase i'm not getting a DC signal off the new HOT leads i'm getting 1.4VAC.

I need to figure out if i shoudl use a relay or a transistor to use an alternate power source like a side mounted double A battery.

Any help appreieated thanks.

i could help you but i'm not about to tell you how to make a wireless detonator...

note: i think many would agree it's a bad idea to share these ideas with someone we don't know...
