My coworker has a nephew who loves to draw. The kid has talent doing freehand. he now wants to get into computer art & animation. He's not that good with computer, but willing to learn. Can you suggest some starting software where he can learn?

He want to do 3Ds, but figures that he has to start with 2D since it's simpler to catch on from there.

Please give me some suggestion so I can give them. $$$ is not entirely an issue (since my worker is rich) but he wants something good for a novice with many supports and tutorials.

get photoshop and illustrator. you can never know enough about these two. once he has 2dimensional rendering down, he can move up to 3D software like Maya.
