Default question on indash dvd player

hey guys.

I know I should post this in the audio forum but no one really responds to any msgs. there. Seems like the cool people are in the basement.

Heres my prob.
I finally got around to buying a replacement DVD player for my ride.
This unit has a built in FM/AM tuner which im not going to use. Im only intending on using the DVD/VCD/CD/MP3 blah blah.......

When I hooked up the unit I was able to power it up after about 5 seconds the player would cut off and in turn would also "disable " my amps.

So I was then able to slide out the player and disconnect the plug in the back. Once I did that all sound came back. If I connect the plug back into the DVD player and turn it on it cuts the audio again to my amps.

Now I was told that these newer model radios etc... need to have the antenna connected to it in order for it to operate. Is that true? Cause im already using a radio with a built in fm/am tuner and 7inch screen so i have the antenna hooked up to that.

Or is this dvd player a p.o.s?

something is telling me the dvd player has an electrical issue. It's not the connectivity, it's a defect in the unit.

My current alpine deck is running without the antenna properly hooked up to it. It works fine, but my AM/FM signal sucks.

It shouldn't power off just by hooking it up. If it effects just the unit, fine ... it's defective .. but it screws with your amp too. It's somehow crapping out the remote signal.

sounds like something is grounding out in the wire you are plugging / unplugging. check those wires and make sure they aren't snagged / stripped somewhere.

Well the amps stay turned on though.
Just I cant hear any audio coming from the speakers.
I was planning on connecting the radio to a car battery just to see if it turns off again..plus I was able to insert the DVD Troy in it and now it wont eject.
powers off to soon.

Funny though in the back of the manual. Troubleshooting section says....

Radio does not work...... cause....antenna not connected...Solution......connect antenna
