Dawn of the Dead, as you probably know it, was a remake of this guy's original Dawn of the Dead movie. George A. Romero is like the father of modern zombie movies.

What's cool is that I heard the lead actor of Shaun of the Dead apparently has a cameo part

I'm not much a fan of zombie flicks, or horror flicks in general.

I think the original Dawn of the Dead enjoys a cult following more because it happens to be the prototypical example of the modern zombie flick (as if that particular genre is really in need of its own prototypical example) than because it's a good movie.

[trekkie moment] Although I will admit, I think the Star Trek zombie flick (First Contact) is probably the best of the Star Trek flicks, sharing that distinction with Wrath of Khan. [/trekkie moment]
