Default Computer People,..i need your help

Okay so i have this laptop here,...when you try to boot it up, it goes to the black screen that ask you if you would like to boot into:

"Safe Mode
Safe Mode w/command prompt
Safe Mode networking or something like that

Last known good configuration

Start windows normally"

Now if i select anyone of those options even safe mode it always takes me to a blue screen that says:

"A problem has been detected and windwos has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you"ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. IF this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer."

once i get to this message i cant do anything,...so the laptop's owner goes "aight just go ahead and reformat it for me,...so i grab a XP disk and i put it in,..i go into the bios and change the boot sequence to boot from the CD-rom drive first,...once it tries to boot,..it just goes to the black screen i described at the beginning of this post,...can anyone help me try to figure out this shit?

I had the same problem on my last laptop and had to take it in to have a data recovery and format done. Three weeks later my procesor fried....so it may be a sign of more serious problems.

Not all XP cds can be booted from. What kind of computer are you using? Laptop? Desktop?

Does it have an A: drive?

It's a laptop e3nine.

I don't know if you tried it, but as soon as it goes to the black screen, try hitting some keys. Just anything, to try and get the cd to boot.

:loco: i got so excited, i missed the 1st line.

I've had this happen before. I'm not sure if it's the same case as above, but try different Windows cds if you have them. 98, 2000, whatever you have. Hopefully one of those will go and you can upgrade to XP when you get a fresh copy of Windows installed.

Find an XP disc that you can be sure you can boot from. When it gets to that black page, it already going into Windows. Usually it asks you to hit the ANY key when you want to boot from CD-ROM

Hmmm. Come to think of it, you're right. 98 can be setup from DOS. He'd have to find some way to format the drive 1st.

XP Corp, for sure, can't be booted from the cd-rom. I tried that on Friday.

I don't know if you have access to a cd burner, if you do, try burning one of the many linux distro's out there that have LIVE bootable cd's.

I've had some pc's that had something wrong with them and wouldn't boot windows but would boot linux fine.

Just something else to try and see if it works, you don't have to know anything about linux really. If you see a bunch of text flying accross the screen saying it's starting this and enabling that, then it's working, if it's a blank screen... well then you got a hardware problem.
