Default Climbing the cables at Half Dome, Yosemite

If you've ever climbed Half Dome, this is about the "cables" section.

This bugged me quite a bit. You know how it gets pretty crowded up there with a lot of people on the cables at once. There was this lady who "took precautions" and wore of rock climbers harness and would caribener herself on the cable as a "safety measure".

The problem is, this woman clearly had NO REGARD FOR ANYONE ELSES LIFE EXCEPT HERS. You can die falling off the cables, but with her caribener safety line, she would take out the half dozen people behind her if she ever fell saving her own life.

(holding the cables is the only thing keeping you from falling and her caribener would rip the hands of those below her as she fell.)

This is the same mentality of the people who drive Hummers to "protect themselves" with no regard for the people they run over.

Yosemite is tight! we went once and went to the top of one of the summits. Well it was storming on the other summmit across the valley and it was sunny on our side. It was pretty cool to look through the ranger's binoculars and see people climbing and thunder and lightning with dark clowds and sunny on our side. A great view.

Yup... that's a view of the cables I'm talking about, but it's hard to see the angle of the slope from that pic.

Me at the same spot:

Here's a better view looking DOWN the cables

Here's me and my friend standing on a ledge... with the ledge highlighted.

It's about a 5000 foot drop.

Here's the entire trail... usually takes about 14 hours to do.

Yeah, it's a bummer that most people think only of themselves but at least it's a good thing nothing happened. :happysad: Anyway, I've been wanting to get to the top of Half Dome ever since a failed attempt when I was a kid. If I remember correctly we didn't leave early enough and got only to the forest area before turning around to make it back before dark. How long did it take you guys?
