The only way the ABA will ever take off in the US is if the NBA goes on an extended labor strike this summer. The NBA has it's minor leagues, the NBA Development League, which seems to do well, but other than that, sub professional basketball doesn't attract fans. The ABA has to compete with:

NBA
WNBA
NCAA
NBADL

The minor hockey league roared in popularity only becaue they were the only other hockey around. If the NBA goes on strike, you have to compete with many other brands.

The ABA does offer something more doesn't it? is the game it self faster and more aggressive then the NBA rules? I do agree that the ABA have lots of competition though... have you ever been to a ABA game?

I've never been to one, but ... I've never seen one on TV either. I'd like to watch sports, but even ESPN2 doesn't play these games.

What time of year does the ABA play? They need to play in the summer to stand a chance

Nov - March = NCAA
Nov - June = NBA
June - September = WNBA

That's not good. The other football brands make sure to start their seasons after the Superbowl. Arena League Football starts the week after the NFL's Pro Bowl and is broadcasted on NBC and Fox Sports Net. Even with the lack of football competition and a national broadcast ... their ratings are still garbage.
