My mom has a '91 LS400 (same engine as the SC400) with 160k miles on it that she bought new. Thing still purrs like a kitten. Never had anything go wrong with that car. Aside from routine maintenance and repairing an accident, that car has never been in the shop. Most reliable car my family has ever owned.

The car still looks so nice inside and out, friends ask my mother why she got a new car ('04 TL) when she had this couple-year-old Lexus. My mom is all "um, this car is 14 years old." She still drives it a fair bit.

heard that the sc300 is better because of the non-turbo 2jz that is in it.

They only put a manual in these things the first few years, correct? Obviously I am only talking about U.S. SCs.

The earlier SC400 has "only" 250 hp even though it's a V8.

They upgraded it to 290 hp in '98. But that'd be a bunch more than 5 grand.

My friend has one older 400 and an older 300.

Personally I like the AT 400 more than the MT 300.
