Default The human body - more powerful than a locomotive (holding boards)

Last week I did 4 TaeKwon-Do demonstrations for the end of the year celebration. It's fun and the kids have fun doing it too.

I decided to see how many boards I could break compared to last year. Last year I only did 4 each night. The boards are 12"x10"x1" #2 pine.

This year I started off with 5 on Monday, 6 on Tuesday, 7 on Wednesday and 7 again on Thursday all using either a flying side piercing kick (heel) or my elbow.

This pic was from Tuesday night using an elbow strike. Boards are taped so the boards don't go flying everywhere and kill someone

I figure it takes about 50-70 lbs of force to break one board. And it exponetially gets more difficult as you add more boards. 6*50-70lbs=300-420lbs maybe 2*300-420=600-840lbs of force maybe?

I'm not sure if there are any physics or body mechanics here, but would that sound right? When I did 7 the last two nights, I was sure I could do 8-10 boards, but I didn't want to kill myself since I had a race on Friday

It only hurts when the boards do not break. If you don't break the boards the energy has to go somewhere and it usually goes back into your technique ie: hand, elbow or foot. That really smarts.

There's other things as well. Confidence, body mechanics, speed, power, and proper technique. 1-2 boards a regular schmoo should be able to break. 3-4 requires proper technique, stance, and balance. 5+ just requires you to be a bit crazy

Cool

I've been a big fan of elbow because of it's devistating properties. I did a step up to front elbow strike on this one.
