True but it seems more prevelant in the skate world because it is seen as a "rebel" sport so once they get to that level there is a sense of needing to live up to that reputation.

I have hung out with Lance Mountain, Steve Caballero, Hawk, Magnussen, Hosoi and that whole crowd and in talking to them it seemed as though they were lost somewhere between who they were supposed to be and who they really were. It was a market push of always having to be not only at their prime but also had to be seen as the rebel. When you got them alone or in a small group most were actually pretty quite and reserved, but once that camera came out or a large group of fans or competitors it became another competition of who would or could do the craziest shit and get away with it.

Cab is one cool cat. You ever make your way over to Mountains halfpipe in Pomona? I know a lot of the old school crowd skates over there and I heard Hosoi has been practicing there since his release

No I've never been out there...haven't skated in years. I skated with Cab back when I was in high school in NorCal...he's a super cool guy, acted like it was no big deal, but everyone was in complete shock that he showed up to our puny skatepark. I heard Hosoi is going to make a comeback?

Yeah I talked to a buddy of mine that was at his home coming party and said he picked up a stick and was working it pretty well for an old guy who hadn't been on a board for over 10 years. Word is he is going to start back on the comp circuit a bit next year but may end up out there late this season.

Hawk or Magnussen?

If it was Hawk he is actually a pretty cool guy but there are a lot of times he is real short with people. You have to consider he has been at the top of the pile for pretty close to 20 years now, so everyone demanding his attention gets old. One on one he is a very personable guy as long as you aren't sitting there polishing his balls and just be cool about shit.

Rick Thorne I have heard is just a freak like that :chuckles:
