It was a great movie, I remember when it came out, a friend and I just went to see it not knowing what the hell it was, and it was a surprisingly good movie.

what? I thought that was one of the worst movies ever. I don't see how people can place it as high as the usual suspects. I never understood the jay and silent bob movies either.

How can I place it so high?

Pretty simple actually...the writing was top notch, the acting was top notch, and the story itself was both funny and honest at the same time.

The problem with most of the movie going public in the US now is that they have been taught to accept special effects, gratuitous violence, and sex as a substitute for a movie that otherwise lacks any form of redeeming qualities. This brings the status quo down to the level of a 2 year old in that you can distract the person with superficial shit and still bank big bucks on it.

Mystic River was another example of a well balanced storyline and cinematography, thank goodness it had just the right balance to get a positive response from the public. Its rare they ever really support an actual good movie. Instead they pack the house for movies like Titanic (what a POS that was) and Hellboy (don't get me started on that one) and say it was a great movie.

It has the recipe for success. Back to the basics simplicity.
