How do you wet sand a car?
you guys are crazy
, and 80 grit is
hnoes:
wetsand is tedious job and requires a lot of attention.
General Procedure:
1. Use fine sand paper, 1000 grit. Sprinkles water and sanding at the same time
2. Use a SOFT sanding block
3. Sand in a SLANT position. DO NOTUSE CIRCULAR MOTION.
4. Do it 1 sq foot area at a time.
But hell, if you want to repait your car, use a sanding machine, and sand it with some 800 grits. Touch up the holes and dents in the body (a whole other story). Machine sand it again, or if you want to becareful, do the wetsanding. Then primer it, then wetsand it again, then do the paint. When you're talking about hand sanding and stuff, you're talking about $5000+ paint job there where a person must pay absolute detail to every inch of your car.

It's very easy to sand to much(through the paint), especially on ridges. Just keep it wet while sanding. Use a block with the sand paper on flat surfaces, and your hand with no block on the ridges, contours, etc. Also, be carefull with the polishing wheel. It's easy to take to much paint off with it also. It takes practice to get good. I've done it before, but i would consider myself far from being good. I am alot better at tinting windows than paint and body work. The secret to a good paint job is the prep work. Also, lots of practice and experience. Just be sure to sniff all of the paint fumes everytime you paint(joking). I've actually heard where people can't do this for a long period of time without actually screwing up your brain. Probably not a good profession to get into.
Wet sanding is for wimps.
Real men use sandblasters.

interesting. usually you dont want to wetsand in circular motions. you want the surface to be evenly sanded. sanding up and down for a few sets and then switching the motion to left and right while constantly applying water with a very light oil free detergent. :dunno:
