Default Advice at the workplace...

Ok.

So I only have 2 weeks left in my current position, then I will be transfered over to a better job. The position I am in currently we are severly short staffed... basically 2 people are doing the workload of at least 5, and this is order picking in a warehouse. So its not exactly easy.

Yesterday was another 14.5 hour day. The boss knows we have a problem, but because we are still getting the work done, he isnt hard pressed to find more people. I am getting sick, literally exhausted and just drained. Its been like this for over a week now. Mind you the boss is putting in long hours too, but he doesnt do half the physical work we do.

It seems like the only way to get a change is to either leave right after my 8.5 hours, or just not go in for the day at all. What do you think I should do? If I dont go in or leave early, there really isnt anyone else to do the work, except people from another department.

What do you think?

are you getting paid overtime?

well, here's my take ...

The manager doesn't care because stuff is getting out the door. The second the warehouse starts missing shipping times, then he'll get in trouble for it, not you ... but not like you care anyways. I'd think about myself first, leave at the end of my scheduled shift, and go on with my day.

If they ask you to stay, explain to them that you've been there more than enough and working yourself to this point isn't a solution. Remind them that you won't be there in 2 weeks, so it's only going to get worse.

well you're talking to someone who worked on average 10hrs M-sunday for nearly 7weeks straight.

yeah it gets tiring and your body and mind takes a beating but for 2 more weeks and OT pay, I would just consider it paying my dues then move on.

oooooh. i'm a sloppy reader. i missed that.

yea, don't piss anyone off too severly. just let them know that you need rest, but will do anything within your capability to help out.

once again, remind them that in 2 weeks, you'll have different responsibilities and a solution has to be in the works as soon as possible.

maybe thats why you got the promotion.
They know you could accomplish the work despite being short staffed.
I know its hard because I've been pulling in alot of overtime.

I work from 8-4 then go home and remote into our system for another 5-6 hours. It does get stressful but, you only have two more weeks.
Two more weeks of O.T wouldnt hurt.

Someone here told me this once.

"hard work never goes un-noticed".
not sure if thats true but, this person started here as a accounting temp and 16 years later is the C.E.O of the company I work for.
