How do you know that it hasn't done anything to slow population growth? In animals there may be things that have a more pronounced effect on population like resources and predation but how do you know that homosexuality doesn't play a small role in it?

If homosexuality is the great equalizer. How come the species with 'overactive' reproductive systems, like mice and other rodents, don't show any signs of homosexuality? These species will keep reproducing until the regional resources dry up, effectively killing them all, or at least making them move on.
I'll admit your theory has merit and should be considered, but shouldn't it be broadened to consider: serial killers, sexual deviants and suicidals? Just a thought.
There's also the possibility of global cataclysm. That would definately play the trump card over your ghey theory, the earth could just umm "kick us out". Since we're talking millenia here, it should not be counted out.

The percentage of the population that claims to be homosexual is actually less than 3%. IMHO it's an insignificant and unpredictable factor.
I think the real population "adjustments" will come in the form of uncontrolled epidemics, wars, radical climatic changes, and the big question mark of what happens when the lack of support structures will reach critical mass.
Technology will save us in some respects, but will likely kill us in the end.

i know 3 people who have gay biological parents. which means........homosexuals still reproduce! but DAMN those kids were weird and probably more destructive to society than beneficial. one of them had a kid when she turned 15. another wants to overthrow the government. the last is beyond weird and will never find himself a mate, so i guess that kind of helps slow population growth by... 0.0005%? just from what i observed first hand.

I wondered the same question, it sounds palausable for homosexuality to be a sort of saftey valve for the race.
But in looking to it,,,
first off evolutionary growth is always about indivual ability to reporoduce nto group or species*, evolution works mainly by each individual trying to spread their genes as much as possible and a trait that stopped spreadig of genes just wouldn't logically develop by this method
* I asked my bio proffessors what about bees and monkeys that help eachother out and stuff and he said they don't violate this and showed proofs that I found to be shady and I dunno *shrug.
also how do individaul bodies (not minds but hormones glands) "know" over=population is happening? Gay people in America for example aren't seeing hunger or lack of ejaculation (which the body will see as chance to spread genes) that might "indicate" it the way weather indicates season to animals and stuff,,,so gay people in developed countries are a kinda counter example...
also homosexuality's leading theory as to why it exists ("exotic to erotic" kinda interesting you can google it..) is mainly psychologicaly based not "genetic" ,,,but then genetics <> psychology is a murky issue
also gays were around well before population..,The Greek Empire is one of the gayest things to ever happen and Benjamin Franklin (again no enviromental factors indicating overpopulation..opposite) was freeekaaayy.

Homosexuals want families?? not a bad idea....they can help to get all those kids out of foster homes and just adopt them like crazy then they will raise their own little gay kids which will in turn keep them from having kids right? it would be a vicous cycle and great population control right?
