Thats not necessarily true. Many states have a used car lemon law.

You can here. Used cars at dealerships that aren't certified preowned and don't have a warranty have papers on the windows stating "AS IS, NO WARRANTY"

I don't know. He should try calling a local office of the North Carolina Attorney General to ask that question.

It all depends on the wording (or lack thereof) of the contract, be it verbal or oral.

Also, as-is applies to unknown conditions, not to known problems undisclosed.

Where is the mechanics liabilty in this you paid him right? He was a mechanic you picked? Then again at the time you purchased this accord it was already 9 years old. And nearly 2 years have past since it was inspected. A judge would say anthing is possilble in that two year window. I say no case, save your money, go rip the mechanic a new one.

hum? used car, private seller, as is, buyer beware, car fax, fraudulent/shoddy repairs.. i havent checked car fax site lately. i dont know the limit that u can recover from them.. do u have to purchase something special from them to collect from them? car faxes are as accurate as the info submitted on them. that unfortunately aint sayin much.. they are just info collection, like credit reporting bureaus.. they arent going to check it for quality or reliability just list what is submitted. look at dealer lots, new cars arrive damaged all the time u think the car fax is going to show dealer x repaired $.. i dont think so... the data is supplied from certain sources. dealers wouldnt be handing them out like candy if they couldnt hide stuff from the seller.. i think car fax only goes back so far year wise for accidents.. i think certain ins cos do summit the info and that is hedgy too! has to be a certain amount $$ damage or say claims under $1000 doesnt show up....criteria i dont think is standardized.. its true about the title mess. flood cars get new titles.. if the guy that sold u the car is a dealer check your state, if he sells a certain # of cars a year even in his drive way he can be considered 'a dealer' and u may have recourse.. some owners arent truthful it would be 'nice' but if its a private seller then i think u are screwed..but call a lawyer just for the hell of it.. the 1st visit is usually free.. good luck guy.
