Default Computer question. Windows staying at the XP.

I don't know what is going on with my desktop. I did a fresh reboot about 1 month ago and it's been working fine.

I went to reboot it the other day and it just stays at the Windows XP frame with the little bar that goes back and forth. So I rebooted and brought up the menu for SAFE MODE; SAFE MODE w/NETWORKING; SAFE MODE COMMAND PROMPT; Last WINDOWS THAT WORKED; and lastly START WINDOWS NORMALLY.

Last time (back on Wednesday) I clicked on Last WINDOWS THAT WORKED and it worked fine til this morning. Froze again and I rebooted and choose LAST WINDOWS THAT WORKED and it's still stuck at that screen.

Anything I can do? I put in the Windows XP disc to see if I could repair and it's asking for admin password, which I do not know.

Any other ideas?

How did you choose that "repair" option? There is a repair option that runs your through some command lines I think. Then there is also one that actually fixes all the system files automatically.

I don't even remember setting one.

I popped the Windows XP disc back in and I had 3 options:
1. Install Windows XP
2. Repair Windows XP
3. Quit

there is a second repair option that comes up if you choose install. just tell windows to install into the same folder as before, it should ask if you want to repair again, this is the automatic repair WiLL is talking about.

for admin pw...

download a bootable linux distro
boot to the disc
copy the SAM and SYSTEM files from the system folder to a usb key

Find a "full" version of LC4 or LC5 (lopht crack) for windows

Use Brute force to crack admin password
