Would anyone happen to know why no matter what gear I shift into, the stick has so much play in it as if it were in neutral? I can move the stick side to side in each gear just like I can in neutral and it causes me to miss gears sometimes. WTF?

Replace your shifter bushings.

nope. That's not all...

There's also a roll-pin shoved through the shifter rod that connects to the transmission's linkage. It should be under a metal clip If it slips out, or wears out, the knob will be going all over the place. If you bought a swapped car, make sure someone didn't shove a bolt through it because that won't work for #^$%! You need a roll pin if anything else is used to secure it.

Check both.

mine does the same, but that's because the tool who had the tranny before me, couldn't get a short shifter to fit into the bracket. what does he do? bend the shit out of it and cut the arm extension into the rear bushing.
