Gamers: EVE ingame vid
Like ricers, the term carebear really depends on the person saying it. Me, I use it to refer to the people who pay all this money to play a multiplayer game... and then get all cranked off when they actually have to interact with other people. Like "oh noes, I can't do everything in game solo, this is bs waaah"
Or "I should be able to fly through the most dangerous parts of space without any problems."
EVE is unique in that for the most part, PCs provide the element of danger and competition, not NPCs.

EVE was awesome... 5 years ago..
The thing is, since leveling depends on length of time, doesn't that mean that the first person to play (considering that his skills were upgraded perfectly everytime it expires) will always be ahead of everyone else? and you can NEVER catch up?

I've been playing for about 5 months now. I hang out and do a lot of carebear-riffic things down in the Heimatar region. I've done some occasional group pvp, but I don't play enough to have the isk($) to lose many ships. My corp just left the Confederation alliance because they can't get their act together and a 700+ person alliance was getting their butts handed to them by a 20 person corp.

Yes and no. It's true that you will always be behind an older player in skill points, but because each level of a skill has the same bonus, more skill points doesn't give a huge benefit.
For example:
Level 1 of a battleship skill takes about 2 hours.
Level 5 (max) of the same skill takes 30 days.
Both give the same benefit. So the older player is investing huge amounts of time for just a 2%-5% advantage over new players.
