My mom turned on the vacumme, and my cats pupils grew to the size of saucers. Then, as he became acoustomed to it, they grew smaller.

Just something I never noticed before.

nope.... People do it to... girls also do it when they're turned on h:

 

sypmthetic nervous system controls pupil dilation.
parasympathetic controls pupil constriction via the third cranial nerve (edinger-westphal nucleus)

different sized pupils great than 1 mm and varying sizes in bright and dim light is known as anisocoria. same difference in light and dark is known as physiological anisocoria.

When adrenaline is released into a humans body (through the flight or fight issue, or on a roller coaster, or anything), your heart rate rises, your blood pressure increases, your eyes dialate, etc.

So yes, when adrenaline is released into your system your pupils will dialate, the downside of the dialation is that you lose some depth perception.

That's why during the Police Academy we trained extensivly to be able to "relax" during a fight or flight high adrenaline situation, so we can control our breathing, our heartrate, and restrict our pupils to more normal levels.

You're not as good of a shot with dialated pupils and a high heart rate. =]

Nor do you make nearly as good of decisions.

 

It is also one of the things they teach you psychology to watch for, because when a person lies their eyes will dialate and there is no way to control it

can anyone else make their vision blurry on a whim? i was asking my roommate and describing what it looks like and he never heard of anyone able to do that.
