Why hide in a larger city or town when there is a larger population which isn't always as easy to control in these situations for someone hiding. Seeing how high the reward was for info leading to his capture, do you really think an ousted dictator would be stupid enough to walk into a major metro area to hide?

I don't take this man's word for it.

doesnt that obviously show that this rumor is false?

its harder to be found hiding in the network of holes in that region.

no it doesnt, they could have just as easily postponed the annoucment of that soldier's death until another random attack occurred, lets say 2 days later... no one would veer know the difference excep thte soldiers...

could be a misleading kind of thing.

it doesn't matter. if he's a guest in a house, it wouldn't matter how high the reward is, if he didn't want to be turned in, you'd have to listen. the ideas of hospitality are completely different over there. if he was in a tiny rural area, where the caves are, everyone would know, and he'd be caught instantly. My professor, who's an expert in this stuff and was over there, ranted about this for like an hour one time and I listened.

a couple things bother me about this report. first, if he was living in a "modest home," instead of a hole in the ground, isn't it reasonable to think that he wouldn't have come out looking as grizzled and disheveled as he was? he looked like a cave man. granted, he could have been using this as some kind of disguise... but anyone could tell that it was him, even behind all the hair.

second, if he had been fighting off american soldiers, why would he give up and surrender? why not kill himself or blow himself up and take out some american troops at the same time? i guess this is pretty subjective, but what would be going through his head to make him think he'd have any reason to surrender?

he could of not had certain amenities in the home, a modest home in iraq is not an american modest home...

hell he might not have even had running water....

I think we will never know what happened. I also believe that Saddam being the arrogant fool he is would not crawl in a hole and stay there. He thinks of himself as being some sort of a god and I dont think someone who is that self absorbed would actually craw in hole like that. I think he would rather surrender then be humiliated.
