Default does mold cause metal things to rust?

i got my friend's sub box, i put my sub in there, and 5 months later, the screws holding it in are all rusted. theres like corrosion on the sub, by some of the holes too. the only reason i can think of is that there is mold on the box somewhat, because a case of beer exploded in his trunka while ago. i mean, its not that much, but would that cause rust?

any sort of moisture on a scratched, bare, metal surface will cause rust.

don't you remember science class?

Water=moisture=oxygen+steel=rust

If the sub box even got a little bit of beer on it and he didn't dry it out long enough (outside the trunk) the wood would absorb the moisture and then the screws would rust out.

Sand it off, and get stainless screws.

Where there's mold, there is moisture. And where there is moisture on metal, there is rust.

The rust is the least of your worries. where there's mold there's spores, and spores make you sick. Get a new sub-box, or breathing problems, it's your health.
