Keep working hard. You also have to network. Networking is the key to going places. Without it, it doesn't matter how much work you do or how good it is, you will be forgotten.

I'm not too worried, it was a popularity contest. The general manager of my club just left, and when meeting with me for the last time he said "Sebastian, I hope to be seeing you at the management meetings as soon as you graduate. You can do very well in this business and can make for a great life for you and your family. Thanks for everything you've done."

im sure you deserved the compliments by your manager, but seriously, for you to get excited and hopeful because of these comments, you're just being naive. im not saying this to discredit the praise, but nor am i giving it any credit. anyway, you'll learn over time and when you go full time. for now, have fun believing it and getting excited.

good stuff man. That means more than a popularity contest. Just make sure that during review time he writes stuff like that or else it means nothing.

Don't put to much on this one event. You will eventually be recognized, if not in "official" ways. For example, you might get a cool boss who also realizes the BS stuff that happens and recognizes you a different way: pushing for you to get a raise/bonus more than usual.
