you could change the font on your IE to make it look sharper or bolder or something to that effect.
but i can't remember exactly what you had to do.
anyone know what i'm talking about

yea, for ie to look shaper.. delete it and buy firefox...
and as for text, run your monitor on it's right resolution and use a DVI

Just as Rick said, it's called cleartype and it's somewhere in your fonts/display settings.
It will look like ass0r on a non-LCD monitor though. Well, not ass0r, just nothing spectacular.

www.getfirefox.com
for everything else, configure cleartype - makes a world of difference for an LCD

Control Panel > Display > Appearance > Effects > Screen font (Standard or ClearType)
