My laptop is completely ****ed. When I turn it on, the power light goes on, but thats it. The screen doesn't power on, and it definitely isn't booting - there's no hard disk activity. Looks like the motherboard is dead. Possibly the BIOS chip.

Its a four-year-old Sony Vaio FX300 (P3-900/512/15 gig/15 inch TFT). For what I need a laptop for, its perfect. I can't believe I'm going to have to buy a new laptop. ARGH.

AND THIS HEAD COLD IS MAKING ME INSANE

Try that vicks eucalyptus steamer stuff. You put it in a pan of steamin hot water, add your eucalyptus oil or whatever and carefully breathe in the steam. Can't help you on the computer thing, I am a neophyte with respect to computers

I think you mean "reseat." Reseeding my ram would probably involve a porno mag and 40 seconds of "alone time." :P

I had the same issue with my Sony laptop. Try replacing or reseating your RAM.
