no you need to grow up and realize comments like that are not needed even as a joke when it comes to someones life.

i'm a bit weary on the definition of "depressed"

at times every year, i have the exact same symptoms and seem to cycle out of it.

i think it's good just to remind the person how fun life can be ... don't rub it in ... just do fun things, be yourself, make the person happy by being yourself.

treat a depressed person like youve always treated them, the problem is in them not you. act different and they'll just feel alienated and thats not good

have him/her talk to a professional. you really can't do anything to help if it really is depression. this is from someone who went through it.

Even if they go to a few times, the first meet they will be given a test to see if ur are depressed and if you are, then they can send you to someone who can give you medication..

i wasnt depressed to the point where i needed medication, but i was mildly depressed, and talkin to someone once a week for a full summer helped a lot

Exactly.

Was he diagnosed with depression or did he self-diagnose? If he's been diagnosed by a Dr., that Dr. should have referred him to a Therapist already and/or started him on meds.

When i was diagnosed, my bf at the time didnt understand depression what so ever. He did the complete opposite of what you're supposed to do when someone close to you has depression. So i went to Border's and bought him a book titled something along the lines of "When someone you love is depressed". I read the whole thing and found a lot of great pointers in there. You can also search the internet and find some really good tips on what and what not to say and do.

Good Luck.
