Lug Pattern Question?

I think I recal a thread long ago on one of the boards asking why different cars had different number of lugs, and the answer seemed to be TORQUE. Take something like a city bus, or garbage truck, with lots of torque, and look how many lugs it is. Basically Kestrel answered the question with his reply. So you don't shear or break the connection of the wheel to the axle.
