so i downloaded a virus...

Default so i downloaded a virus...

... and i have symantec antivirus running in the background and it didnt detect it

its a variant of the mydoom worm... which infected my friend's computer :doh:

im thinking about ditching symantec... What are some good anti virus programs out there? doesnt have to be free *cough*

If you want the best protection, Kaspersky is it. NOD32 is also good and uses few system resources, BUT at the cost of reduced trojan detection. I used to run NOD32, but purchased Kaspersky this time around. At any rate, both have trials available. Try them both.

Oh, and you're running Symantec, as in corporate edition? That is also an excellent antivirus. I am surprised to hear that it missed a mydoom variant. Are your defs up to date?

running the symantec anti virus 9.0

my school has a license for it.

i dont mind *cough* paying *cough* for software
