Default Quick car deal question

OK, I was at a dealership tonight and the sales guy was trying to convince me to trade in my car. He was saying that his price plus the tax savings would be more than what I was looking to sell it for on my own. My question is what is this tax savings that he is talking about?

Do they only tax you on what you wind up paying out of pocket for the car after the trade in?

maybe he meant that he would cut the price down on the car you wanted low enough that you save on the taxes? :dunno:

They tax you on the retail of the car.
