Default So I'm finally getting the hang of a manual transmission

Car: '96 Mazda Protege DX, Unknown DOHC motor, 5 speed

It's my (ex)girlfriends car (see the stupid post I made last week about taking my car to it's upper limits because this girl cheated on me, without going into detail about all of that)

I made her a deal this morning, I gave her my 98 Accord EX for the day (she loves this car) and I got her junker Mazda (it's got 239,XXX miles on it )

My only real problem was going from a start (especially in reverse) and not going into 2nd when I wanted 4th and not going into 5th when I wanted 3rd

I burnt the clutch a few good times (don't tell her that! she did break my heart, so it's all right) and I think I popped it out of 5th once because I held my hand on the shifter.

It's really fun, even though that car has like zero get up and go (my automatic Accord smokes her everytime, and she's a decent MT driver), and without a tach it's pretty hard to have a lot of fun because I don't know if she's got a fuel cutoff limit or what. Hearing that chirp when you enter 2nd is bliss though.

Plan on selling my automatic Accord this summer. I wanted an GS-R or a Prelude VTEC but they're slow. I kinda want something that makes 200whp+ stock and few Hondas do that. I thought about the RSX Type-S with boltons + Hondata = 200whp, but that's another $2g on top of what I'd pay for the RSX. I don't really know what I'm thinking about getting now, as I was also thinking about getting a 96+ Civic and dropping in a B18C, but that doesn't make more than about 150whp. I want something fun, but around $8-10K.

when shifting push with your palm to get into 1st 3rd or 5th and pull the shifter back with your fingers to get into 2nd and 4th. I had a problem of missing gears when i first started. It helps to watch ppl who know how to drive manual a lot. should also learn to downshift by rev matching. I learned that on a bike scary :x

A GS-R in a Civic will be more than enough for you Spanky, especially considering Civics aren't heavy and you're just learning manual.

Also, I don't classify Preludes and GSR's as "slow." They're no 12-second car, but they'll spank your Accord.

yea, don't knock the GSR until you've owned, drove, and worked on one.
