Virginia Beach 2nd Grader arrested and charged for bringing .22 to school
SubscribeAn eight-year old is facing a felony charge after officials say he brought a gun to his Virginia Beach elementary school Monday.
According to police, it was just after 12:00 noon when the second grader at Brookwood Elementary was arrested after an officer found a handgun in the student's shoe.
Authorities say a student reported the gun to school officials earlier Monday morning after seeing it in a restroom.
A school resource officer at the school, located in the 600 block of South Lynnhaven Road, then confronted the student.
Officials say the weapon was a .22 caliber handgun.
The student was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school property, which is a felony. He is being held at the Virginia Beach Detention Center.
Police spokesman Don Rimer said no students or faculty were threatened.
Authorities have not said if the gun was loaded.

FWIW, I've never been in favor of gun bans... but I have always felt that we need to encourage responsible gun ownership in this country.
