An eight-year old is facing a felony charge after officials say he brought a gun to his Virginia Beach elementary school Monday.
According to police, it was just after 12:00 noon when the second grader at Brookwood Elementary was arrested after an officer found a handgun in the student's shoe.
Authorities say a student reported the gun to school officials earlier Monday morning after seeing it in a restroom.
A school resource officer at the school, located in the 600 block of South Lynnhaven Road, then confronted the student.
Officials say the weapon was a .22 caliber handgun.
The student was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school property, which is a felony. He is being held at the Virginia Beach Detention Center.
Police spokesman Don Rimer said no students or faculty were threatened.
Authorities have not said if the gun was loaded.
