BulletProof FTP is really good but not free.
Filezilla is great, free, easy, tons of features, open source, reliable, fast. No ad's or spyware crap either.

Not saying there's anything wrong with SmartFTP, I've not used it. Just saying some of those "features" are standard on just about every ftp client that people have mentioned so far in this thread.
