:happysad: I just wish we could pay for it without doing something like cutting education or benefits, but it looks like all the costs will come from funding destined for the military...

Yeah, but not only is it a 20 fold increase, more than that would be impossible underneath Bush's bad spending :happysad:

this post only shows you know very little about the military and it's benefits. SGLI (soldier's group life insurance) defaults at the maximum of $250,000 unless otherwise directed lower by the service member. Policies are mandatorily updated quarterly and before each deployment.

Look, it was 12k but you also got your 100-250k if you paid the minimal amount each month out of your military salary.

The only time people didn't get the larger benefit was if they opted OUT of paying for the extra life insurance.

So the government would give $12000 if you died, and your $30/mo that came out of your paycheck would give another 100-250k (depending on what you wanted/paid for) in government-sponsored life insurance as well.

And like I said, the only way you wouldn't get that extra insurance was if you purposely opted out of it when you enlisted or at some point in your career.

Well, to "assume" is to make an ass out of "u" and me h:

Notice never ONCE did I mention life insurance myself, or if you read the article, you would have realized we were talking about the tax-free "death gratuity" that was increased by $87,580, and there was an additional $150,000 payout in the insurance beyond what's currently there. Never once did we mention that the payout was only $250K either...

It was even less during the Clinton years, by the way.

but that 250K is taxable right? Now there is 100K non taxable + 150 taxable so it is better this way isint it?

And I didn't approve of Clinton's spending 100% either, but as a general rule, I much preferred Clinton's economic policies to Bush's policies.

I don't think there's been a politician in my lifetime I approved of everything they did, but for Bush, this is a first
