The L.A. Gear version was called The Regulator. :chuckles:

They weren't the Payless version though because they actually worked. The Payless version just had a rubber basketball on the tongue that you could pretend was the pump.

There was this kid in my third grade class who tried to pass off his Payless fakemeout ones as real pumps. He would have people "pump" it and he'd say he could feel it inflating. I bet he was so pissed at his mom for making him wear those.

*edit*

Reebok came out with the InstaPump a bit later. They came with a hand inflator that used CO2 cartridges; you stuck it on the release valve and pumped it up that way. They sold replacement CO2 cartridges for it too.

And that brings us to what is probably the coolest shoe of all time, or at least I thought so when they came out: the InstaPump Fury:

A friend of mine got a pair of Jackie Chan signature Reebok Furys from Hong Kong. :grinpimp:

Oh, and the first shoe to have The Pump was a tennis shoe worn by Michael Chang called the Pump Court Victory.

And get this, Reebok is bringing back The Pump: http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/041110/new020_1.html

They're calling it The Pump 2.0.

Amazing the stuff you can find with google.
