And try to rebuilt it? The first car i ever bought was a 325IS E30 and i kind of miss it. I know they are pretty much wortless now a day(apart from M3) and I can pick one up for 3K cnd. Do you think its worth trying to rebuilt this car or would it be too expensive?

it would be very expensive.
before I sold mine I was thinking about doing a motor swap. not just any motor but the M30 from the E34 535i bored to 3.7L with 290hp from Metric Mechanics and mate it to a Euro 6-speed tranny.
Engine and trany alone would have cost $10K

I am actually looking for one myself. Not sure though if i am really going to go through with it, but i loved it when my dad had an e30, drove very nicely. but i think it would be a good idea now, car has to be atleast 15 years old, too many miles, and you'll probably dump more than you expected to. i dont know, i have to find a replacement soon though.

If you really want one to build up, I would look for a 1991-92 318i, it will be cheaper (to buy).

They're nice cars but rebuilding anything is pretty damn expensive and really not worth it IMO.
Just try to get lucky and find a low mileage one in good shape. They're out there.

Owning a 1989 325is for the last six years I feel I can give the best opinion on the E30.
My car has about 270,000 miles still looks and drives great the original motor and trans are still in the car.
I have only had to do one major repair when the head cracked.
It seems a lot of people think BMW parts are expensive I have to say BS the parts for my Honda civic DX wagon are always more expensive or just as much. I buy all my Honda parts thru Majestic and my BMW parts thru Nick Alexander BMW in Los Angeles or Courtesy BMW in Chico
Even with 271,000 miles the BMW has no rattles or squeaks unlike the Honda.
I have owned the BMW since it had 150,000 miles and bought it off the original owner don’t let high miles scare you away from owning one of the better cars BMW made in the last 20 years in terms of reliability.
If they have records buy it.
Keep in mind the M20 motor is a dinosaur in terms of technology but was state of the art in terms of engine management Bosch Motronic the later 88+ cars seem to be the most reliable get a least a 325i or 325is. the 325e 325es and 318is 318i cars are reserved for grandma style drivers.
The 1989 325is was considered the best year by anyone looking for a non M car small bumpers and no airbag.
Stuff I have done to my 325is
Short shift by UUC
H&R springs
Koni shocks
Quafie diff with M coupe cover
BMP strut brace
M3 rear swaybar
JC chip
Extrude Honed intake and exhaust
Eisenmann stainless catback
M3 offset bushings on front control arms
Shrick 272 cam
Stress relieved rocker
Light port and polish on the head
Stainless steel braided hose brake lines
Zimmerman cross drilled rotors and Greenstuff pads
Other then that the car is stock ,body paint, interior down to the radio which has a very rare Alpine 12 disc factory changer in the trunk and still have all original sales literature and window sticker owners manuals etc.
If you looking for a car that drives fast in a straight line look someplace else the E30 the a car for the canyons not the strip.
E30 crappy no way, The VW GTi before I got my E30 was shitty n' shit and was always broken. The E30 has been the most fun car I have ever owned easy to work on, the dash layout is designed with the driver in mind. Funny how it took other car companies 10+ years to figure out how to make a seat as good as the E30's sport seat

If you're willing to spend a few thousand repairing it, why not put that extra few grand into buying an E36? The E36 is a more comfortable, safer car than the E30.
