solar trickle chargers
volkswagen has these solar panel chargers that they put on their cars to keep them from draining. apparently the number of electronics in their cars has a significant parasitic drain. my quesiton is, is there a relay or something in the vw's that allows the panel to charge? in all of my cars, at least, the cig lighter is an open circuit until the key is turned "on". how can it charge the battery without the key? i have a couple of these given to me and tons of other styles on the market...ideas?

pretty obvious, you just connect it directly to the battery.
