Listening to music from the computer in a different room.
Anybody know what the best way to set up a system so you can listen to music played on your computer in a different room?
for instance, my sister wants to stream Greek radio stations online, but she wants to hear it downstairs (preferably with seperate volume control), and the computer is upstairs.
Is there maybe some kind of soundcard I could use to hook up some regular bookshelf speakers to the PC?
Any help is appreciated.

most sound cards are not amplified, those that are put out usually well under 10watts. Get some $20-50 computer speakers (that have a volume control) and then knock over the nearest radio shack and get a ##ft extender.
cheapest and easiest

how well do you think it would work if I just cut the speakers' wire and just used regular speaker wire to extend it? 'cause the longest extender I see at Radio Shack is 8'.

it'll work. use a small gauge. use something too big and your going to have a lot of signal loss.
if your going more than 20ft I'd use like a 20 or 22 gauge wire.

i got like a 20 foot cable that splits the headphone (whatever it is that comes out of your sound card) jack into the red and white plugs for rca cables.. you could run that to the new room and put a reciever in there with speakers..
