or been in the Coast Guard? i need your honest opinion of what it was like, i was in the army for 3 yrs so i know what thats like, whats the coast guard like?

 

why only 3 years and not 4?

 

how was bein in the army? seems to tough to me .. but i heard u get quite a few perks ..

 

because 3 was what i signed up for. i was in and out before i turned 21 so it was a good deal.
wasnt that bad, i went in oct of 98 and was out a couple months before sept 11. all branches of the military gets the same pay/benifits/bonuses. but each military branch gets treated differently. army and marines get treated the worst mainly because they deal with more face to face combat then air force or navy. navy and air force are a little more relaxed. and from what ive heard the coast guard is almost like being at a civilian job but with all the benifits of being in the military. ive been considering going into the coast guard for some time. and with past experience of recruiters i would rather get an outside opinion before i go full throttle. i went in pretty ignorant about the army when i just turned 18 and ended up in the infantry. the worse MOS to go into. but luckily i was smart enough to tell them "im not signing anything unless im stationed in hawaii". but overall a good experience. didnt leave me with very many job skills. unless i wanted to be a hired killer. but thats not me

 

Well my grandpa was in the coast guard for many many years...retired from it..he loved it...much better than when he was in the navy. I'm not sure about the difference from the Army though...h:

 

Whenever I hear Coast Guard I think about David Hasslehoff, but that's Life Guard

i was in hawaii the whole time they were filming baywatch hawaii. i watched it and kept pointing out mistakes like how they would run from waikiki beach to the north shore in like 5 minutes

 

my friend is in the coast guard and he has a blast, his crew has the record for a drug bust on the ocean, he tells me that its practically all they do is look for drug smugglers in the gulf of mexico.

 

my friend is stationed at the Coast Guard here in Philly. He is excited to get out. He works on Honda outboard marine motors and the big diesel motors. It is like civilian life...I see him almost every night when I'm down in Philly. And his job isn't everyday - he gets like 3 days off a week.
