That sux cus if they make everyone switch over to sprint. Thats not going to make alot of loyal nextel subscribers happy. This merger could be good on one hand and horribly bad on the other

 

good riddance to those nextel walkie talkie phones.

It just pisses me off when ppl are shouting into those things. Everyone around you doesnt want to listen to your conversations you inconsiderate bastards.:madfawk:

 

According to my friend who is an engineer at Verizon, they will maintain both networks for a while until they can get the Sprint PTT to work as well as the one Nextel currently maintains. Nextel was in the works of switching to CDMA technology anyway because iDen works on such a poor spectrum (the lawsuit by police and fire departments comes to mind). The last thing that Sprint would want is to lose business customers because PTT doesn't work. While it is going to be costly at first, they will save a lot of money. Not to mention that both companies needed some kind of merger to stay competitive in the age of the wireless superconglomerate

 

i work for nextel and im very considerate of how i use my walkie talkie. its on silent mode most of the time cuz the whole world doesnt need to know bout my conversations. nextel's direct connect service will never go away, its the one feature that made ppl get nextels in the first place. this merger will help convert our tdma system to cdma operating at a 2.4ghz range.

nothing will take place yet, as far as i know, nextel and sprint is still competitors. u will start to c changes starting 2nd quarter of 2005. should be interesting to c.

 

Sprint has the walkie talkie thing going on now too...it's not very big yet but they do have it..so I have a feeling that with the merger they will definately have it on more phones...since Nextel already does h:
