I need to find the link of these guys using liquid nitrogen to get their system up to 5ghz.

It was cool and all, but all I could think of is "These guys need girls"

eh. after he put on a proper heat sink, it powered up fine. he was able to install XP and ran it overnight with no problem. most motherboards come with a bios-level temperature monitor. if the temperature goes above a certain level, it'll power off. that'll usually save AMD CPUs these days.

but the guy's a complete idiot, and he's lucky the thing still works

then he is extremely lucky because unlike Intel, AMDs do not react quick enough to save the cpu if there is no heatsink.

i wasn't aware that they reacted at all. pentiums will slow themselves down as much as they need to if they detect that they're running too hot. AMD decided not to include this feature in order to cut costs, and compact the chip as much as possible. most motherboard bios-level temperature regulators are good enough for AMD processors these days (unless you shut it off, for some reason), but most won't dynamically reduce processing power to control the heat. i think most will give a warning, then shut off if you don't respond.

the guy's still a dumbass
