SO I went to an Auto Detail place to get an estimate...

I had a bad experience with the cali water blade.. even after a careful wash, when using the blade i put a long scratch on my hood that took a lot of effort to remove by pc. You can still faintly see it, actually. i use it only on windows now.

The PC's a good thing to have, though expect to spend another $70 on pads and polishes!!

On autopia i go by raymond_ho2002 . i've been on there for a few years now.

Do NOT use 3M rubbing compound by hand; you will get hazing that'll be a nightmare to remove without a machine. It is moderately aggressive. I've used it once in combination with a wool pad using a PC to get rid of heavy swirling. It produces fantastic results, but it does need to be followed up with a lighter swirl remover, like 3M swirl mark remover.

I go by Corey Bit Spank.

I would not use rubbing compound unless I had a few other polishes to correct any hazing that it may cause

It isn't very agressive but it isn't something to use on the whole car.

It's been about 6 months for me, too. My poor car. But I want to get new stock bumpers before I bother with a major detailing project. And even then.. I wanna take a road trip up to North Tonawanda and have Corey teach me his ways. h:
