Default first time road racing!

I just got back from the track and HOLY SHIT that was fun!!!

It was a test and tune day and $48 got the two of us all the track time we could possibly have used. There were only about 10 other cars there, and about 4 motorcycles... lap traffic wasn't too bad. We had a few automotive mishaps (glazed brakes, melted battery wire) but the car made it back in one piece and managed about 20 laps or so. We drove my roomie's saab.

Anyway, I'm so incredibly stoked... I think I'm gonna bring my car there tomorrow and try it out. I have newfound enthusiasm for my car and making it into a reasonably fast machine. My hypothetical wallet is already getting lighter. I've been autocrossing off and on for 3 years, but this is so much more exciting (and economical in $/track minute). I have a new hobby!

:yay: :yay: :yay:

it was fukking awesome. Yeah, there were a few guys from HAI there. A couple rediculously fast wrx wagons, a 240/silvia. Everyone was very nice and helped us noobs out.

Unfortunately this weekend is probably the last weekend ever for SCR... all the new neighborhoods being built up out there are trying to shut the place down... theres a public meeting on monday to decide the fate of SCR.

I'm tempted to take my car tomorrow, despite its horrid slowness. It was amazing driving a turbo car on the road course... I've driven/ridden in several turbo cars on the autocross course, and they all blew. But andy's car seemed perfectly at home on the race track (aside from completely killing his EBC pads).

I'd do more track days but it's much more expensive AND the risks are higher of course. Maybe when I get my tow vehicle and trailer I would do it more

Isn't that SO stupid though? Englishtown is having the same problems. People who had houses built are complaining about the noise. HELLO!?! You built the house close to a race track - what did you expect? Stupid people.

That's like moving into a house next door to an airport. "Hello yes could you stop airplanes from taking off and landing? It's really putting a damper on my sleep, thanks!"

aka Laguna Seca.

I hope Sears Point doesn't start to have the same problem.

Sorry, but couldn't there be many accidents from n00b drivers?

Also, what is the difference between AutoX and road racing? Is autox a shorter course and sharper turns, whereas road racing is stretched out, like in Auto Modelista?

Sorry for ruining your thread but I am

no road racing is done at a track.

Laguna Seca and Sears Point are both legitimate road course tracks.

road course means it has both left and right turns, vs nascar oval tracks with turns in only one direction vs 1/4 tracks with no turns.

they don't just let any n00b on the track with no instructors. one bad accident can ruin a club and or the track so they are very cautious.

autox is done a empty lot with cones to draw the track. autox also has both left and right turns.

yeah, they wouldn't let us noobs actually race there, but we're free to test/tune/tool around as long as we follow general track etiquette. That place is pretty laid back.
